What is “Plaban” made of?

Shrinkable Plaban are made of a material called “Polystyrene”.
Many of the plastic containers that you find in delicatessen shops have the mark “PS” on them, which can also be used as a shrinking type of Plaban.
In fact, the white plastic containers of Natto also shrink.
It’s fun to experiment with the uncleaned part of the lid (although the aspect ratio when it shrinks is quite strange).

However, there are Plaban made of polystyrene or PS that do not shrink.

Actually, they return to their original size when heated.
This type of Plaban that returns to its original size after heating is stretched thin and hardened while being heated.
By applying heat to it again, it returns to its original state.

The aspect ratio of the shrinkage is determined by how thinly it is stretched while being heated.
This is why there are differences in the aspect ratio of shrinkage depending on the product.

Plaban that do not shrink even when heated because they have not been “heated and stretched,” they are just still in their original state.
